Site carries a daily designation, but is updated up to several times a week with consumer news items, free advice, and new reports. Site is also updated on a regular monthly cycle with each new issue of Consumer reports magazine.
Full access to the site, including product ratings and the current issue, is restricted to subscribers only. A limited number of selected reports, advice on product selection and safety alerts are freely available, as are a five year listing of product recalls, a listing of major consumer product manufacturers, and links to the websites of governmental and private agencies offering assistance to consumers.

The Dec. issue is the annual Buying guide issue for the following year, <1944>-1992; this issue is one of two published in Dec. and designated no. 13 within each vol., 1993-1997. Buying guide for 1998- continues to come with subscription to Consumer reports, but no longer bears its volume and issue numbers.
Auto reports published in each monthly issue are also published separately in an annual publication called: New car yearbook.
